Igudesman & Strauss – Waltz on Fire

Aleksey Igudesman Conducts and Plays Johann Strauss and own compositions!

“During his summer trips, Johann Strauss was often seen strolling with Maria Olgovna Igudesman, Aleksey Igudesman’s great-great-grandmother in Pavlovsk Forest. Although Strauss spoke no Russian and Maria no German, a deep, spiritual bond existed between the two. It has been secretly whispered, that the similarity between Johann and Aleksey is not without reason. The unexpected birth of Maria’s illegitimate child has led to great speculation.“

…is Aleksey Igudesman really Strauss’ great-great-grandson? We don’t know. However, the fact that both share a feeling for harmony, melody and humor makes the relationship between the two clear. Over 100 years separate them stylistically and historically, yet Igudesman’s lively compositions seem to be direct descendents of Strauss’ passionate works. Igudesman’s works include Russian “Viennese Songs“, Bulgarian waltzes and Balkan polkas.
