Violins of the World
Duets and Poems by Aleksey Igudesman, inspired by Celtic, Eastern European and Latin American music, not to mention scratching cats and flying pigs.
Violinist and composer Aleksey Igudesman has been playing concerts around the world for over 20 years, omitting no opportunity to explore the music of all the countries he tours to.
His quest has borne all kinds of fruit, including a series of violin duets in diverse musical styles, published by Universal Edition. His own poems compliment these compositions of his.
In this special project, he manages to bring together countless seemingly irreconcilable ways of playing the violin. The pieces are full of fun and abound in spicy interracial musical marriages… Klezmer and Tango, Celtic Irish and Bulgarian, Salsa and Eastern European, you name it.
As a bonus, poetical interludes diversify the program, so that in case you’re hard to please you will also get to hear some of Igudesman’s latest poems, inspired by “Scratching Cats” and “Flying Pigs.”
Janine, Jansen, Julian Rachlin, Alexandra Soumm, Pavel Vernikov, Dan Zhu and Gidon Kremer are among the many violinists who have teamed up with Igudesman for this unique project. His poetry is often recited by Sir Roger Moore. The whole event features new surprise-guests all the time, and takes pride in putting the next generation in the spotlight.
